OC-RAN : AI-Powered Cloud-Native RAN
Software-defined Radio (SDR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Cloud Computing enable the transition of network functions from dedicated hardware to virtualized and cloud-native software components.
OC-RAN, developed by O-CRN, is a fully containerized, 3GPP & O-RAN-compliant Radio Access Network built using Software-Defined Radio, AI, and cloud-native technologies. It replaces traditional, hardware-bound RAN components with scalable software modules, enabling flexible, cost-efficient deployments. Supporting both O-RAN Split 7.2x and Split 8, OC-RAN is designed to run over open interfaces and can handle multiple fronthaul split configurations simultaneously.

OC-RAN Architecture Components
-
OC-RAN-CU (Central Unit)
- Implements PDCP and RRC layers.
- Fully containerized and cloud-native.
- Supports deployment in public or private clouds.
- Offers high availability and auto-recovery in case of failure.
- Manages multiple DU with the same type of latencies that a standard S1 radio could support today.
- Designed for scalability, reliability, and seamless orchestration.
-
OC-RAN-DU (Distributed Unit)
- Implements RLC, MAC, and High PHY layers.
- Typically deployed at cell sites or edge data centers.
- Optimized for low-latency fronthaul and high-performance radio processing.
OC-RAN Deployment Flexibility
OC-RAN is highly adaptable and supports a variety of deployment models
-
CU in public cloud, DU at the edge.
-
CU in data center, DU at the cell site
-
CU and DU both in central or edge data centers.
-
CU and DU co-located on the same server for compact deployments.
